The main story out of last night’s debate was President Joe Biden’s apparent senility. Since then, figures previously loyal to the Democrat party line have joined to demand his resignation. UnHerd’s DC Correspondent Emily Jashinsky joins Freddie Sayers to give a blow by blow of the showdown, and a closer look at the media reaction to the Trump v. Biden debate, as it happened.

SubscribeI’m skeptical of Bobby Kennedy’s popularity. He has no government experience at all. None. Nor has he led even the smallest of organizations. No business. No environmental organization.
Nicole Shanahan is just as bad. No experience at all. She’s wealthy because she married Sergey Brin, a founder of Google. And then was divorced for having sex with Elon Musk.
Not a good look.
RFK Jr may have no government experience but that can be a plus rather than a minus. He has led many campaigns inc CHD and had a large environmental impact. His understanding of the Elite, Big Tech, Big Pharma and all the other Bigs including the Administrative State have given him a great base to turn America around.
Think that you are being a bit unfair on Nicole. I am NOT a fan of hers at all but think she also made some money from her own work but maybe that was all ‘backed’ by Sergey etc. Kennedy could, and should, have picked a lot better.
My guess is they stick with Biden, both out of loyalty, as Emily Jashinsky suggested, but also because his closest advisors are the people running the country and they don’t want to give up power.
Thanks so much for treating RFK, Jr. seriously — a true rarity among journalists — and drawing attention to his virtual participation in the debate, which I hope all Americans will watch:

Kennedy is actually right of Biden, more centrist, and, in my view, more representative of legacy Democrats. Biden’s administration has been a mouthpiece for the “woke” progressive wing of the party, who are not liberals in the historical Democratic tradition, but illiberal. That has alienated many rank-and-file Democrats, who desire a return to sanity.
Likewise Kennedy’s appeal to moderate Republicans, who are no less concerned about Trump’s craziness than Biden’s senility.
Too bad his brain was eaten by worms.
I have to say I get the feeling that Emily is a touch too naive, too serious and a little too young. She went on and on about the golf handicap exchange. But actually, Trump answered a question regarding his vigor given his age, and responded that he’s as fit as ever of mind and body as evidenced by his excellent golf handicap. That’s a perfectly reasonable answer since golf requires extensive physical and cognitive ability. Then Biden chimed in in a really childish way. So the person who was being petty and really silly was Biden, not Trump who answered the question posed by the moderators in a perfectly reasonable way.
As for Kennedy he has zero chance of being the democratic party nominee. He was violently opposed to the covid vaccine (not without good reason) and that alone disqualifies him in the democratic party given that the democrats were blindly pro-covid vaccine and in denial regarding any adverse events (recall safe and effective repeated n number of times).
My gut tells me that Biden will be the democratic party nominee because he will refuse to stand down. Further, if he were to stand down, the democrats would have to have some sort of open convention as otherwise it would be viewed as grandees anointing a chosen one (unless that chosen one were to be Kamala Harris who, as VP, is Biden’s natural successor if Biden were to step down, disastrous and incompetent though she is).
Joe Biden will be seen to have a physical illness like a stroke or heart problem which will be a reason that he can be replaced without admitting the truth of his unsuitability to be POTUS. Those who have been untruthful about his condition for several years will have some basis to avoid admitting their cover up for the purpose of retaining power and financial advantage.
Biden will also avoid future prosecution for his family involvement in corruption.
The US political and legal system- supported by the MSM is an embarrassment and can be seen as so by the rest of the world.
Anyone who thinks that the idea of election fraud/fixing (through all sorts of means ) in western so called democracies is unthinkable, is not paying attention.
This will not end well and ultimately we will have less and less freedom or control over our own lives and choices.
The recent election debates on both sides of the Atlantic should make all reasonable intelligent people wonder how we have allowed matters to come to such a sorry state.
As an American in the news messaging business, Emily should know the US doesn’t have “cabinet ministers.”

I think the early debate (pre-Convention) was a clear and definite move by the DNC to have JB’s unfitness come out early enough for them to arrange a new Candidate at the Convention. This way they could let ‘reality’ cause Biden’s removal rather than have to reflect on his fantastic/terrible period in Office.
There was a democratic election to decide the Democrat Candidate for President and President Biden received millions of votes and won many primaries with 90% of the votes cast.
The people have voted for President Biden to be the man on the ballot in November.
Will the Democrats respect the voters decision?
