I am a new reader and so surprised to see nobody commented (or, didn’t care to comment) on such an interesting and thought-provoking piece. I would like to thank Giles Fraser for sharing his thought about Islam and Anti-Capitalism or Socialism. It is particularly important because persistent efforts seem to be going on, in recent times, to prove Islam a Capitalist religion. Unfortunately, some Muslims seem to have an approving attitude towards that.
Thanks for the commie author admitting his evil alliance with Islam to rule the world & enslave us humans as slaves! Yup, ‘wonderful’. Don’t forget how once Islam was allied to Nazi Germany. Even Hitler admitted certain admiration toward Islam [read ‘Hitler’s tabletalk’. edited by Trevor Roper]. Gee, thanks [I think].

Thank you so much for this article! It outlines exactly my own thoughts very succinctly.
Adding to your own points, the concept of Zakat is fundamentally anti-capitalist as well. It isn’t just a form of Islamic social security or some percentage of your wealth you have to give every year, but an obligation to value your fellow human beings wherever the need may be. It mandates prioritising the community over the individual, where Zakat takes the role of a form of system where labor is entirely focused on bettering your own life and the lives of others, instead of the traditional capitalistic organisation of the economy, where the accumulation of capital and the growth of productivity through the exploitation of resources is the priority.
